The primary role of Station 101 is promoting boating safety. Station 101 conducted over 125 on-water and shore based Pleasure Craft Safety Check this past year.
Station 101 was established in Penticton in 1996, in 2010 the Station moved to Vernon and is supported by the Southern Interior Safe Boating Society S-0047973. The Station is based at the Vernon Yacht Club. Over these past many years its members have delivered Safe Boating education, conducted Pleasure Craft Safety Checks and provided assistance to both boating community and our Emergency Services partners.
Station 101 maintains a 19‘ Boston Whaler owned by RCM-SAR that was repositioned from the coast to Okanagan Lake in May 2012 and was seen regularly patrolling the lake through Sept. The operation of this vessel is supported by funding generated by either the society through grants or donations or its members.
Station 101 members have taken hundreds of hours of training ranging from Boat Handling to Navigation, Boating Safety, and First Aid. Personnel development through online and practical courses offered by RCM-SAR and other agencies is encouraged. All members of the Station are seasoned boaters which bring a wealth of experiences to the unit.
