Station #4 – Squamish
RCMSAR Station 04 is currently stationed at the Squamish Yacht Club in Squamish BC, 45 minutes north of Vancouver where the Squamish River runs into the mouth of the Howe Sound. Squamish is known as the recreation capital of Canada. With a large number of boat owners and several marinas to choose from, this allows for a lot of boating activity throughout the year.
Because of this, RCMSAR Station 04 was formed in the beginning of 2008 to provide rescue support for the rapidly growing community. The station started out with a hand full of members and an owner operator vessel for training. For the first year we didn’t have a true rescue vessel and didn’t go into service until the beginning of 2009. That was the beginning. Currently, we have 21 dedicated volunteers and two rescue vessels. A Titan T-Top, our main response vessel, and a Tornado (Delta 3 configuration) which is currently our secondary training vessel. At the moment they are moored at the Squamish yacht club as their temporary home. Both the Yacht Club and the District of Squamish have been more than generous over the years in supporting us with facility usage and logistical support while on our search for a permanent location. So far it has been a fun 4 years as a unit and we hope to be able to provide our community rescue support for the years to come.
